About the UNcathlon

April 9, 2017

Registration 7:00am-8:45am

Event Start 9:00am

The first ever UNcathlon to benefit Special Olympics PA (SOPA) is a one of a kind team challenge event that unleashes the transformative power of teamwork!

You can participate in 2 different ways:

UNcathlete - participating in the physical events the day of & fundraising

FUNdraiser- non-event participant that is helping by raising money for a great cause but staying sweat free! You can create or join a fundraising team by going thru the same registration process on line.

The UNcathlon event embodies the daily goal of SOPA: inclusion & acceptance through sport! An UNcathlon in all sense of the word, this has11 events not the traditional 10 found in a decathlon. The event will be UNified, UNconventional & UNforgettable!

The event will take place on Sunday April 9, 2017 at the Schenley Park Oval, located at 1 Overlook Dr in Pittsburgh PA.

Our goal is to have 20 teams of 5, plus a Special Olympics athlete on each team. Special Olympics PA will provide the athlete. All teams must be co-ed. Our participants will be challenged both physically & mentally; and will be tasked with the additional challenge of fundraising money in support of nearly 20,000 athletes.

The day of the event, each team will take part in 10 physical trials, with each individual team member participating in 2 events. You and your team captain will decide which events each team member will take part in. The 10 events will test speed, strength and endurance. The challenge events will include:

1. Pull ups

2. Shot Put

3. Dips

4. 40-yard dash

5. 400 M run

6. 800 M run

7. 20-yard shuttle run

8. Long Jump

9. 500 M row

10. AMRAP Mystery Exercises (As Many Rounds As Possible)

Since the UNcathlon is a fundraiser held in honor of Special Olympics PA, the 11th Event is Fundraising! Fundraising will account for a percentage of the overall score. The funds raised will help to provide training & sport competitions free of charge to our wonderful Special Olympics athletes.
